Nagoya

Nagoya is Japan's third largest city with a population of about 8 million, including the surrounding metro.  It sits on the main island of Honshu near the coast between Tokyo and Osaka.  Nagoya boasts the world's busiest train station, and it is also the home of Toyota.

In a spiritual context, Nagoya is the most unreached area of Japan.  Nationwide, there is just 1 church for every 16,000 people, but in the Nagoya area (Aichi Prefecture) there is just 1 church for every 26,000 people.  This is the most un-churched area of one of the largest unreached people groups in the world.  We are thankful for the calling God has given us to serve in Nagoya and excited to minister in this great city.

We first met our team leaders, Wayne and Amy Newsome, about 6 years ago and instantly felt drawn to their leadership style and to the work God is doing through them in Japan.  The Newsomes have been serving in Nagoya for over 22 years, and they provide excellent guidance and stability to the MTW church-planting team there.  Over the years, their team has successfully planted four churches with a fifth church-plant in the works and assisted in the founding of an international Christian school and Christ Bible Institute, a seminary to train Japanese pastors.  They have identified several more areas of Nagoya where they would like to plant new churches when they have more missionaries to assist with the work.
